Detectives Seek Info on Violent University District Robbery

Detectives are seeking information about a violent armed robbery in the University District last weekend.

Saturday January 8th at approximately 10:00 p.m., the victim was walking home from his job, at Northeast 57th Street and 8th Avenue Northeast. Two male suspects confronted him on the sidewalk – one armed with a knife and one with a handgun. They demanded his phone, and after he handed it over they promptly smashed it onto the pavement. The suspect with the gun used the weapon to strike the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground. As the victim lay stunned, the men stole his wallet, and the suspect with the knife repeatedly slashed and stabbed at him. The men then fled on foot, and the victim managed to walk back to his place of employment. His coworkers rushed him to the hospital, where he was treated for multiple lacerations to his body and an injury to his head.

The victim described the suspects as Black males in their 20s, both about 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothes and masks.

Detectives are hoping someone may have seen something that night and are looking for any tips that will lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
