The suspect in an armed carjacking rammed a police vehicle and became stuck in a muddy park before officers arrested him early this morning.
Around 11pm, a man was parking his car near 8th Avenue and King Street when a man approached him, pistol-whipped him, and took his phone, wallet, shoes, and keys.
The victim and a family member reported the incident to police and, about two hours later, they called 911 and reported remotely tracking the vehicle to Colman Park, in the 2300 block of Lake Washington Boulevard.
Officers arrived at the park, saw two people sitting in the victim’s stolen car, and blocked the only entrance and exit point. When the suspects saw police, they attempted to ram a patrol car and flee the scene. When that failed, the suspects drove across the park’s muddy grass, collided with a park bathroom, and became stuck. Officers then arrested the driver and passenger.
Police found a handgun in the car and booked the driver, a 20-year-old man, and the passenger, an 18-year-old woman, into the King County Jail.
