Police Investigating After Security Guard Shot Outside South Seattle Grocery Store

Police are investigating after a security guard was shot outside a South Seattle grocery store late Monday evening.

Around 11 pm, police responded to the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South for a shooting and found the victim, a security guard at the store, with gunshot wounds to his legs.

Medics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police the victim had kicked several people out of the store earlier in the day for shoplifting. During the earlier incident, a shoplifter reportedly punched and spit on the security guard. Later that evening, the shoplifter and a group of other suspects returned to the store, armed with a large stick and a firearm, to confront the guard.

The guard and several other people fought with the suspects until one of the suspects shot the victim and fled.
