On 07-27-2022 at 1438 hours, officers responded to a report of a man on the roof of a building throwing bricks down on cars. When officers arrived, they found that every vehicle that had been parked in an apartment parking lot had its windows all shattered. Officers spotted the suspect believed to have been responsible on a nearby rooftop. The suspect appeared to be experiencing a narcotics-induced episode and jumped from the roof when officers approached. The suspect then ran from officers and tried to break into a group home nearby. Employees at the group home fought with the suspect to prevent him from breaking the door and coming inside. As officers closed in, the suspect broke several windows at the group home and took off running again. The suspect was cornered soon after when he climbed 25 feet up a tree and refused to come down. Officers set up containment and began negotiating with the suspect to safely descend and surrender. When this was unsuccessful, HNT was called to the scene. Seattle Fire was requested to stage for the suspect due to the extreme heat and his exertion. SFD also provided ladders for officers to assist in safely allowing the suspect to come down on his own. After many hours, Negotiator 2 and his team of negotiators were able to convince the suspect to safely surrender. The suspect was loaded onto an AMR and taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. Once the suspect is medically cleared, he will be booked for (6) counts of Felony Malicious Mischief and (1) count of Burglary.
