Two Weekend Boating Collisions on Lake Washington

Seattle Police investigated a hit and run collision between two boats, and a second collision between a boat and a personal water craft, this weekend on Lake Washington.

Saturday at 9:24 p.m., a 911 caller reported a boat sinking in Lake Washington near Madrona Beach. Arriving officers located three male and four female passengers aboard the victim vessel. Seattle Fire Department medics transported five passengers to Harborview Medical Center for apparently non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses said the driver of the suspect vessel collided with the smaller victim vessel and then fled the scene. SPD’s Harbor Unit searched for the suspect vessel but could not locate it.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening, 911 callers reported a boat taking on water in Lake Washington near Seward Park. A 17-year-old girl driving a motorized personal watercraft crashed into a boat, causing the boat to begin sinking. All involved parties safely swam to shore on their own and no injuries were reported.

SPD’s Harbor Unit reminds all boaters, swimmers, and paddlers to always follow water safety rules and guidelines.
