Greenwood Burglar Arrested After He Leaves via Tree

Police arrested a rooftop burglar Tuesday afternoon after he climbed down a tree to flee the Greenwood scene.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., police responded to a possible burglary in the 500 block of North 85th Street. A witness reported someone on the roof of a vacant building was attempting to break in. Officers arrived and spotted the suspect, who tossed down his bag of tools and tried to escape. He climbed down a tree and ran down the street, but police soon caught and arrested him.

The 47-year-old man told officers he had been trying to steal copper from the building.

The man also had a small amount of suspected methamphetamines in his pocket, which officers seized for destruction.

After he was medically cleared at a local hospital, officers booked the man into King County Jail for burglary. Police also requested charges for the misdemeanor crimes of obstruction and possession of burglary tools.
