Man Arrested After Assaulting Woman, Threatening Officer

Police in Georgetown arrested a man after he punched and kicked a woman and then pulled a knife on an officer Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., a 911 caller reported a man was assaulting a woman in the 500 block of South Michigan Street. An officer driving through the area was simultaneously flagged down by community members about the same incident. Witnesses pointed out the suspect, and the officer drove down the block to catch up to him. When the officer got out of his car, the man started running and ignored the officer’s commands to stop.

As the officer chased after the suspect, the man suddenly turned to face the officer with a knife in his hand. The officer drew his firearm and the suspect immediately dropped the knife. The officer then handcuffed and arrested the man.

Other officers arriving at the scene spoke with witnesses and the assault victim, who stated the suspect had punched her in the face multiple times, and kicked her once she fell to the ground. The victim was transported by private ambulance to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Police seized the suspect’s knife as evidence and booked him into King County Jail for the domestic violence-related assault and felony-level threats to the officer.
