SPD Seeking Nation-wide Applicants for Deputy and Assistant Chiefs

After nearly two and a half years as interim, Adrian Z. Diaz was sworn in as Chief of the Seattle Police Department on January 12th, 2023. Now, with its top leadership clarified, SPD is launching a nation-wide search to fill the vacant Deputy Chief of Police position. The department will also accept applications for the five Assistant Chief positions in the Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Collaborative Policing, Metropolitan, and Special Operations Bureaus.

Providing all people of Seattle with the very best leadership is a priority for Chief Adrian Z. Diaz. “As the department continues to move forward with leading edge approaches to constitutional policing, it is important that we conduct a nation-wide search to ensure that we assemble a command staff that is cohesive, talented, and committed to excellence,” he said. “The selection processes for Deputy and Assistant Chiefs that we are announcing today will look at both internal and external candidates, with the goal of assembling a command staff capable of building on the excellent work already being done in the department and taking us to the next level.”

Applications for Deputy Chief will be accepted beginning today through March 24th, 2023. Candidates interested in filling any of the Assistant Chief positions can apply March 7th through April 7th, 2023.
