Driver Flees After Striking Man on the Sidewalk with Vehicle  

Police received a 911 call about a car striking a man on the sidewalk then speeding off in Seattle’s Chinatown International District Thursday afternoon.  

Officers arrived just before 03:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Washington Street and 2nd Avenue South. A man reported to police he was walking on the sidewalk when a car almost struck him. The man yelled “watch out” to the driver of the car as it drove by. The driver then completed a U-turn and drove the car onto the sidewalk, striking the man. The *male driver suspect then exited the car and punched the man several times before leaving southbound on 2nd Avenue South.   

The 57-year-old male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and declined further medical attention at the scene.  

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black Mercedes four door with possible temporary tags in the window.

Police searched for the *male suspect and suspect vehicle which was located near the intersection of 2nd Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it eluded them. 

SPD Homicide Detectives will lead the ongoing investigation.
