SPD Office of Police Accountability Direct Processing of Public Disclosure Requests

The Seattle Police Department and the Office of Police Accountability are pleased to confirm that, after a year of preparation, on November 1, 2023, OPA will assume from SPD direct responsibility for responding to all public disclosure requests (PDRs) and legal process (subpoena duces tecum) for OPA files, records, and data.  This transition is both consistent with 2022 budget directives and in furtherance of the operational independence of OPA as contemplated in Seattle’s Accountability Ordinance.

All current OPA related PDRs that were submitted to SPD have been routed internally to OPA and they will continue to process the requests. No changes are needed from requestors.

New PDRs may be submitted directly to OPA via this link: (Click here)

Legal Requests should be submitted directly to OPA via SPD_OPA_LegalRequests@seattle.gov.

SPD and OPA together thank their dedicated staff, whose collaborative attention to this work over the past year to address staffing and technology needs, have allowed for this seamless transition.
