Police Pursue and Arrest Suspect in Stolen Car in South Seattle

A 24-year-old was arrested in South Seattle Sunday night after fleeing from police in a car that had been stolen during a violent carjacking last week.

Just before 9 p.m. on Sunday patrol officers came across a stolen car driving near Renton Avenue South and South Henderson Street. The vehicle had been stolen during a carjacking in North Seattle on Nov. 25. During that incident, a 27-year-old man was shot in the kneecap.

Officers pursued after the car for about 10 minutes in and around South Seattle and Interstate 5. The pursuit reached speeds of over 100 mph before the stolen vehicle driver lost control and crashed into a guard rail on the northbound I-5 onramp at South Colombian Way.

Officers surrounded the vehicle and arrested the driver.

The suspect, a convicted felon, was booked into King County Jail for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and a Department of Corrections escape warrant for attempted Robbery.

Police recovered a gray and black firearm, loaded magazine, and black ski mask. The stolen vehicle was towed to the processing room for a further evidence search.

The carjacking and shooting are still under investigation by the Seattle Police Department Robbery Unit.
