Seattle police arrested four people and recovered drugs and cash during proactive narcotics patrols in Belltown on Monday.
West Precinct officers were working near Second Avenue and Bell Street just before 9 p.m. on March 24, when they observed a large group of men standing together and interacting. Investigators noticed some of them splitting off from each other and talking with people who appeared to be transient. They were then seen exchanging a white, powdery substance or suspected crack rocks, from plastic baggies or containers for cash.
After the brief interactions, the men regrouped, and it appeared to police they were working together to sell narcotics.
Officers established probable cause to arrest each of them for drugs – cocaine – sale/delivery, including a 17-year-old boy, 22-year-old man, 24-year-old man and 27-year-old man, who also had an outstanding felony warrant in Seattle for dangerous drugs.
The 17-year-old was arrested following a brief foot pursuit where, at one point, he hurled a container filled with suspected drugs. The drugs, tucked into a tin that once contained breath mints, were recovered. The 22-year-old and 24-year-old were both arrested after they, too, tried to run. The 22-year-old also threw a container on the ground, but he gave up shortly after and was finally arrested. That container was also recovered. The 24-year-old slipped and fell, then he was arrested.
The three adults were booked into the King County Jail. The teen was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center.
In total, police recovered 20.6 grams of crack cocaine, 3.3 grams of fentanyl, 0.8 grams of powdered cocaine, 7.5 grams of meth and $1,061 from the suspects.
