Man Stabbed in Belltown After Refusing to Hand Over Food

A man was stabbed Sunday afternoon in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood after he refused to give up his food to a group of individuals.

Officers responded around 4:43 p.m. to reports of stabbing near Blanchard Street and 2nd Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 57-year-old man with a stab wound to the upper chest. Officers provided medical aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived. Medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Witnesses said the man had just exited a bus carrying food when several people approached him and asked for it. When he refused, one suspect pepper sprayed him and demanded the food again before stabbing him. Shortly after the stabbing the suspects fled the scene.

No arrests have been made. Detectives with the Homicide and Assault Unit are investigating.
