
Seattle Fire Department firefighters held a 26-year-old man early Tuesday morning after witnessing him shoot another man in the chest in the 100 block of South Washington Street.
Dispatch received a report at 12:33 a.m. from SFD personnel, who were treating an unrelated person for pepper spray exposure when they saw the shooting. The suspect began fighting with firefighters after the incident, but they subdued him and held him until officers arrived.
Police took the suspect into custody without incident. Firefighters treated a 44-year-old man at the scene for a gunshot wound to the chest before transporting him to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Investigating officers determined the suspect and victim had been involved in an altercation shortly before the shooting. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit is leading the investigation.
Officers booked the suspect into King County jail for investigation of assault.
