
In the interest of transparency, the Seattle Police Department is releasing the body-worn video from the officer-involved shooting on Friday, May 30. The department is also releasing the name of the SPD officer involved in this shooting: Officer Patrick Satterwhite. He has been with the department for seven years. This officer is on administrative leave.
The following video shows the suspect fleeing from police and the officer-involved shooting at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Wall Street, in the Belltown neighborhood.

Seattle police detectives in the Force Investigation Team (FIT) are on scene of an SPD officer-involved shooting in Belltown this afternoon.
On May 30, at about 12:30 p.m., patrol officers witnessed a man dealing drugs near 2nd Avenue and Battery Street. The man ran from police, and they chased him on foot.
During the foot pursuit, the man drew a handgun, and the officer discharged his department firearm at the armed suspect. The suspect was not struck by gunfire, and officers arrested him shortly after. No officers were injured. Police recovered the suspect’s gun at the scene.
The Seattle Fire Department arrived on scene and evaluated the suspect for reported chest pains. Police will book him into King County Jail when he is released from the hospital.
FIT will investigate the use of force. Representatives from the Office of Police Accountability and the Office of Inspector General responded to the scene.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation. Per policy, the officer will be placed on administrative leave and the department will release video of the incident within 72 hours.
