Man Arrested for Hate Crime, Felony Assault in Capitol Hill

Seattle police officers arrested a 23-year-old man for hate crime and felony assault in Capitol Hill Sunday morning.

On June 8, at about 1:00 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a man trying to get into an LGBTQ+ nightclub and posturing to fight security. Shortly thereafter, the caller reported that he was now fighting with multiple people and trying to force his way inside.

When police arrived, the suspect ran away from them to avoid arrest. He ran to the 1500 block of Minor Avenue and tried to get into another nightclub when officers caught up to him and arrested him.

An SPD officer was also injured during the arrest. The Seattle Fire Department treated him on scene and officers transported him to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.

Police determined that the suspect put the victim in a headlock, strangled them, and caused multiple injuries while screaming anti-gay and anti-trans slurs.

Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for Investigation of Hate Crime Offense and Assault. This case is assigned to the Bias Crimes Coordinator.
