Suspect Arrested After Firing Gunshot at Seattle Police near Pritchard Island Beach in South Seattle

Seattle police arrested a 33-year-old suspect early Friday morning after he fired a shot at officers, ran away and jumped into the water near Pritchard Island Beach and the Atlantic City Boat Ramp in South Seattle.

Officers were first called to the 8400 block of 55th Avenue South on June 20 at about 6:25 a.m. for the report of an assault. When they arrived, Seattle police found the man and tried to take him into custody. While working to apprehend the suspect, an officer deployed their taser and the armed man fired a shot in their direction. No Seattle police officers were hurt and none returned fire.

The man ran from police after the confrontation and headed toward the Pritchard Island Beach area. Police ran after the armed man and an SPD K9 as well as Tukwila police and King County Sheriff’s deputies responded to help search for him.

During the search, concerned neighbors started calling 911 and reported a man matching the suspect’s description was spotted running through backyards.

Officers immediately responded to the area and found the 33-year-old man running to the dock area near the Atlantic City Boat Ramp. He then jumped into Lake Washington.

Just before 8:30 a.m., the man was pulled from the water and safely taken into custody. Seattle Fire Department medics provided medical aid to the soaked suspect. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

This quick and successful arrest comes after help from both the community and neighboring agencies. The investigation is ongoing.
