Update: Suspect Arrested for Yesler Terrace Stabbing

Police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the domestic violence stabbing of his 58-year-old mother in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood.

Initial reports indicated the victim’s daughter may have been responsible. However, further investigation, including statements from the victim and witnesses, identified the victim’s son as the suspect.

At about 5:36 a.m. Sunday, East Precinct officers identified the suspect and found him near 8th Avenue and Madison Street. When officers approached the man ran. During the foot chase, he threw a backpack onto interstate 5.

Officer took the suspect into custody and recovered the backpack, which contained what is believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault.

Police Investigating stabbing in Seattle’s Yesler Terrace

Seattle police are investigating a stabbing early Sunday that left a 58-year-old woman seriously injured in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood.

At 12:56 a.m., officers responded to a reported of a stabbing at an apartment in the 1100 block of Fir Street. A neighbor called 911 after the victim arrived at their door with multiple stab wounds.

Police found the woman on the third floor of the complex with stab wounds to her neck, face, arm, and leg. Officers provided medical aid until Seattle Fire Department (SFD) medics arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. SFD transported her to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Police determined the victim was awakened by an unprovoked attack inside her apartment by her 33-year-old daughter. She was also stabbed with a butcher knife in the complex hallway during the domestic violence incident. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers searched the area with the assistance of Real Time Crime Center personnel but did not locate the suspect.

Domestic Violence Unit detectives are handling the investigation and working to determine what led to the assault.
