Police Arrest Shooting Suspect While Responding to Robbery in North Seattle

Seattle police officers arrested a shooting suspect while responding to an armed robbery in North Seattle this afternoon.

At about 2:20 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a robbery with a knife in the 9700 block of Aurora Avenue North. While investigating, officers found a man in the hallway of an apartment building with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers provided medical aid to the victim and got to him to safety. The Seattle Fire Department took over medical care and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. He is expected to survive.

Police located the apartment believed to be associated with the shooting and detained all of the occupants. Officers arrested one of the residents, a 45-year-old man armed with a handgun, for the shooting. Police recovered the gun, previously reported as stolen by the Renton Police Department, as evidence.

Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) responded to interview witnesses and process the scene. Officers transported the suspect to Seattle Police Headquarters where detectives interviewed him. Police booked the suspect into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

The suspect, a convicted felon, is prohibited from having any firearms.

At this time, detectives cannot confirm if the shooting and robbery are related. The circumstances leading up to both incidents are under investigation by GVRU, and detectives in the Robbery Unit.
