Seattle police arrested a 23-year-old man Monday morning in Belltown for narcotics distribution and unlawful possession of a firearm.
On July 28 at about 9:12 a.m., officers conducting a narcotics operation near 2nd Avenue and Blanchard Street observed the suspect conduct a hand-to-hand transaction with a woman in the middle of a crosswalk. The suspect accepted cash and handed over a small white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Patrol officers quickly responded and took the man into custody. During the arrest, officers recovered an un-serialized handgun with a loaded 27-round extended magazine. A search also yielded $264 in cash, a digital scale, and 12 grams of crack cocaine. Field testing confirmed the presence of cocaine.
The man was booked into King County Jail for investigation of unlawful firearm possession and narcotics delivery. Detectives later confirmed he has a prior felony conviction related to a 2022 shooting.
Removing one illegal ghost gun off the streets means one less threat to Belltown. It was recovered from a drug dealer who had previously shot a man, a clear reminder of the danger these weapons bring. Thanks to the West Precinct Bike Team’s pro-active enforcement efforts, our community is safer, one gun and one arrest at a time.
