Seattle police officers arrested a 27-year-old felon for hiding a gun and running from officers in Pioneer Square Sunday morning.
On Dec. 14 at about 1:50 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a physical fight near 2nd Avenue South and South Jackson Street.
Police say that a brawl broke out in front of a hot dog stand and one of the people involved in the scuffle was armed with a gun. That person fled from the scene and police did not find him.
Following the altercation, officers saw another man nearby hiding a gun under a truck tire. The suspect ran and officers quickly detained him.
Officers say the suspect has prior convictions for firearms offenses and eluding police. He is on active Department of Corrections (DOC) supervision. The man also had a DOC warrant for his arrest and is prohibited from having a firearm.
Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into the King County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and requested charges for Obstructing a Police Officer. Police recovered the gun as evidence.
Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are assigned to this case.
