Police Investigating Machete Attack in Central District

Seattle police officers are investigating a machete attack that injured a man in the Central District this afternoon.

At 12:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to an assault in a recreational vehicle (RV) parked in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. The victim ran to a nearby fire station for help where officers found him. The Seattle Fire Department treated the victim for a serious hand injury and transported him to Harborview Medical Center for further care.

A police K9 team tracked the suspect from the RV to a nearby location at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and East Yesler Street, yet the scent trail ended. The suspect fled the area, possibly in a vehicle, before officers arrived.

Police applied for a search warrant for the RV to collect evidence of the crime scene.

The circumstances leading up to the assault are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. Anonymous tips are accepted.
