Teen Arrested for Assaulting Woman With Knife, Improvised Weapon

Seattle police officers arrested an 18-year-old man who tried to strike a woman with a knife and improvised weapon at Hing Hay park Tuesday afternoon.

On May 5 just before 4:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a fight with weapons in the 400 block of Maynard Avenue South. Officers detained the armed suspect and began their investigation.

Police determined that the suspect “walked up to the group inquiring about fentanyl…his drug of choice,” according to the police report. The community members did not use narcotics and asked him to leave the area.

After a verbal confrontation, the suspect left, only to return shortly afterwards, brandishing weapons. He attempted to stab the park goers by swinging the knife at them, causing them to leave the immediate area.

The suspect then approached the 27-year-old victim, threatening her with the knife and attempting to strike her with a type of chain and metal bracket. The victim managed to avoid the attack due to the warnings of the community members, who tried subduing him until police arrived.

The victim also reported to officers that the same man assaulted her a few days earlier at Third Avenue South and Yesler Way. This incident is under investigation.

Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
