At 1344 hours, officers responded to the 4700 block of California Ave SW for a 911 report of a robbery involving a knife. The victim indicated the suspect entered the business through an employee only entrance and was confronted by the employee. The suspect brandished a knife, waved it around, and ordered the employee to back away. The suspect grabbed two items from the shelf and fled. He was last seen southbound in the alley driving a vehicle. The same suspect had committed a theft from the same business a week prior. An area check proved negative.

At 1430 hours, SFD had responded to a call of a male “in an altered state.” While attempting to assess the male he became belligerent, threatened to kill one of the firefighters, then attempted to punch him. SFD held the suspect on the ground until SPD arrived and took him into custody for assault. The victim firefighter sustained minor injuries from holding the suspect down.
