Burglar Arrested Hiding Inside Seward Park Home

Police arrested a 47-year old man last night after neighbors reported seeing him break into a home in the Seward Park neighborhood.

Just after 8:00 pm last night, South Precinct officers responded to the 5400 Block of Lake Washington Blvd. South for reports of a burglary.  Neighbors reported seeing a suspect push open a basement window and entering the house.  Officers surrounded the house and at one point saw the man inside the kitchen going through cabinets and drawers.  The neighbor was able to contact the homeowner, who was out of state, and confirmed that no one had permission to be inside the home.  Officers used the public address system in one of the patrol cars in an attempt to get the suspect to come out of the house, but the suspect did not comply.

Officers obtained a key to the house and, with the permission of the owner,  entered the house.  After making several announcements, and the suspect not responding, officers began to search the residence.  The suspect was found hiding in an upstairs closet and taken into custody.  He was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary.
