The driver of a sedan died after he crashed his car into a barrier at the northern end of the State Route 99 Tunnel early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3:00 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported a collision in the northbound lanes of the SR 99 Tunnel, near the Republican Street off ramp. A man in his 30s, driving alone in an Eagle sedan, crashed into a barrier while travelling northbound out of the tunnel. SFD firefighters and medics responded to extract the man from his vehicle and they declared him deceased at the scene.
Members of SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and are investigating. Preliminary information indicates that speed was a factor in this collision.
